This, my friends is the Cajun flag! What is a Cajun you might ask? Well there is a poem that really sums it up best. I have dedicated a page to this poem it is here. There are many disputes as to who wrote it and who is copying it. I know fo sho, that if a Cajun wrote it, they want to promote it! Acadiana is a 21 Parish region in South Central Louisiana, USA. This region has the highest concentration on mother Earth of Cajuns. The Cajuns were "relocated" to Louisiana from a region of Nova Scotia called Acadia, or Acadie, in the province of New Brunswick, CA. Why did they relocate? Because, they rather risk it all, to remain true to their French, Catholic traditions than bow to the rule of Canada, the protestant Queen of England. The rest were just deported if they showed any resilience to the crown. I think the politically correct term would be "French Canadian Exiles"? I call myself a Cajun, or maybe I'll pronounce it Cajaaan if I detect an accent. Why Louisiana? Louisiana was once again a French territory, thanks to Napolean. This was the closest French territory, and there was, and still is, lots of land, land that can easily provide for it's inhabitants. Yes folks, the Cajuns began to make Acadiana about 240 years ago I think the first family of Cajuns arrived in 1764.
